She peered up toward the sky.

A Blackened Void began appearing in the distance.

A pin-prick at first, it swelled and widened, undulating into space itself.

It grew - spinning and rotating

A darkened red rim formed at its outermost edges - a barrier to quell the blackness.

The center swelled outwards and then back into itself, and then outwards again - a repetitious viscous swell of vinyl ink absorbing all the light around it.

It grew larger and larger, higher than a ten story building, blotting out the trees and skyline behind it.

It happened quietly and quickly, and no one seemed to notice, or care, except her.

Two young girls stepped out of the void, much younger than she.

She raised a bemused eyebrow as they walked down the concrete path in the park toward her.

She knew why they were, and what they meant to do.

The smaller one came up to her and reached toward something in her pocket.

The girl’s trembling wrist was marked with a faded tattoo: a remnant of the past that disclosed her poor judgement.

The woman smiled at the girls, unfalteringly. At least they did this face to face. I’ll give them that much.
