A portent of a Future
A picture passing by
Now I see it nightly
I cried - I wondered why
But in the past -
It lies there
Dead, and covered Earth
And all the land will know it
I see you in my girth
I know what I do nightly
The whispers and the wants
Never really knowing
The coulds, the shoulds, the oughts
But I’ll whisper what I want, dear
I’ll sing it to the threads
And maybe a tune they’ll waft here
Of dying, hallowed dread
